Cognitive behavioural therapy assumes that it is not the events themselves that cause your symptoms, but the way in which you see and experience the events. By interpreting the facts realistically and objectively, the negative feelings automatically disappear. You learn to let go of undesirable behaviour. The therapist gives you specific exercises and homework assignments for this. Together you explore how the ‘wrong’ thinking habit originated. The therapy is focused on concrete solutions and has a relatively limited duration. Cognitive behavioural therapy can be used in the treatment of various disorders, including anxiety and panic, depressive symptoms, sleep problems and compulsive disorder.
